Umoja means “Unity” in Swahili. Umoja Sundays is a creative, interactive Learning Through Play event that encourages inter-generational relationships, healthy living, and unity in the community. The intention is to build trust, exchange energy & information and learn and play together as a community.
Show your support for this event and future events by participating in our Community Raffle! Book your Free RSVP ticket to be entered into our free raffle. Purchase a $5 raffle ticket and you could win and choose from a selection of premium cultural apparel. Proceeds help us create more spaces to learn and play together as a community.

Jamii Community Play Day is a creative, interactive Learning Through Play event that encourages inter-generational relationships, healthy living, and unity in the community. The intention is to bring togetherness, play, fun, activity, health and energy to our community.
Jamii Community Play Day is scheduled for the 1st Sunday after the last day of the school year. This was done intentionally to acknowledge and reward the children and teachers for all their hard work during the school year.

“Yamz Ital Kitchen” will be vending food on the day of the event. This is your opportunity to experience a divine fusion of delicious Plant-Based Caribbean and Louisiana Creole Cuisine crafted by Culinary Alchemist Matthew āPureā Bradley.
Reserve your plate by purchasing a $20 Meal ticket. Meal tickets will also be sold during the event, however, there will be a limited number of plates available.

MULTICULTURAL FAMILY DAY

After the pandemic shuttered the special event for two years, Caregivers Helping Hand founder Richdean Hills-Ackbar is excited to return with the annual Multicultural Family Day. As the name implies, the free event celebrates the beauty of diversity. It is an opportunity for people of different cultures to learn about each other to help eliminate cultural stereotypes. The outdoor event is perfect for families and pet parents. Along with multicultural food trucks, merchant vendors will be selling their wares at the event. A dance performance on Sunday comes from the Orijin Foundation, an organization that uses cultural dance to aid in the health and wellness of underserved communities. Founder Natacha Zamor will showcase Chakacha, a traditional dance from coastal Kenya centered on the control of waistline winding while playing with the various drum rhythms that dictate the movements.

Class includes an Introductory Lecture on Breath/ Basic Beginner Yoga Movements The use of implementing yoga props {yoga blocks, yoga straps, etc. Discussion includes interconnecting the flow of breath with awareness and proper alignment through the physical mechanics of yoga.
